Usually when we talk about the story of the Roman Empire, and especially its end, we talk about the Barbarians. Who were their? Usuaully we think that they were not civilized and almost wild people, that at the end were able to cross the borders of the Roman Empire. Well, reading this wonderful book written by Alessandro Barbero, an important expert of the end of the Roman age and the Middle Ages, you will understand how the real history is not exactly as we use to know.

The author, demonstrating a large knowledge, brings us to the ancient Roman Empire, underlining what was the deep and hundreds of years old relationship with the Barbarians. Thanks to several notes and the literary sources, this expert will tell us how there were numerous Barbarians who fought with the Romans in the roman legions, even before the V century a.D. that is considered as the end of the Western Roman Empire.

You will discover, tunring the pages, how and what there were the relationships between the Romans and the Barbarians, beyond but also inside the boerders of the empire. For the Romans the Barbarians were very usefull, and they were not just wild people.

It is a book that for the people whho don't know anything about the ancient Roman age could be hard. But it is also true that Alessandro Barbero is an excellent popularizer, and several videos about him and his lessons could be seen on YouTube. You will understand how even the hard concepts could become easy thanks to him. With a simple and direct style you will perfectly undestand what he would like to describe. For this reason, if this book is perfect for who wants to study deeper the ancient Roman age, I personally think that even for the people who are getting in touch with the Romans this book could be interesting. So I really suggest "Barbari", the Barbero's book, especially if you would like to know more about one important aspect: the love and hate between the Romans and the Barbarians.
